Mahjong is the 2025 sardines trend for 2026! It hit gift, stationery and home decor products like a hurricane, it was suddenly EVERYWHERE. It wasn't just having a moment, it was taking over. If you didn't own a set, you didn't host a girls only game night. This ancient yet wildly popular Chinese game is having a comeback. I chose to illustrate mine to suit modern trends with a fresh, pastel color palette and fun iconography drawing from lucky symbols and Chinese horoscope animals (horse included of course!), alongside a few recognisable traditional mahjong motifs.

I love working with watercolours for their vibrant pigments and colour blooms, and the variety of techniques you can use in layers to create certain effects that complement each subject.
